SELF-EDUCATION: THE PINNACLE IDEAL OF THE CHARLOTTE MASON WAY WORKSHOP
Charlotte Mason stated that “Self-education is the only possible education; the rest is mere veneer laid on the surface of a child’s nature.” With this statement as the pinnacle ideal of everything that is taught in this method of education, a homeschool mother must secure in her mind what contributes to self-education. Dollie Freeman has devoted her homeschool journey to unlock the mysteries of self-educating inside Charlotte Mason’s original writings to discover the four roles of a teacher that naturally leads to self-education. Inside this workshop, Dollie will unfold these core elements that outline the true part a teacher has in her children’s education. You may be surprised just how easy these roles truly are for a mother.

FOSTERING A CHARLOTTE MASON COMMUNITY
Miss Mason said: “All other bodies of workers, whether of hand or brain, enjoy the help and profit of association; commonly, of cooperation. Thus the wisdom, the experience, the information of each is made profitable for all; enthusiasm is generated by the union of many for the advance of a cause, and every member is cheered by the sympathy of his fellow workers.” -
Charlotte Mason understood the importance of community, not only for the child, but for the parent as well.
In this workshop, you'll be encouraged to join and even lead real-life Charlotte Mason communities in your area, because true connections are crucial for your parental support and development, as much as they are for your children.

Day 2: Early Years, Nature Study & Handicrafts
Before Curriculum: Using Charlotte Mason's Educational Tools in your Home
Bring the Charlotte Mason philosophy into practical application no matter your circumstances.
In her philosophy, Charlotte Mason gives three tools for educating our children: atmosphere, discipline, and life. These tools give us the ‘how-to’ of the Charlotte Mason way, whether you have toddlers or high schoolers. In this session, deepen your understanding of these tools and develop a vision for how to use them in your home now. This session will be especially helpful to those who want to apply the Charlotte Mason philosophy outside of traditional, formal lessons, including those in the early years, families who are deschooling, or even those on summer vacation.

Handicrafts for Whole Body Learning
Charlotte Mason tells us that “the child is only truly educated who can use his hands as truly as his head, for to neglect one part of our being injures the whole.” Handicrafts are often nudged aside as an “extra” but in truth, developing the creative side of the brain and learning to use one’s hand is just as important as arithmetic and reading.
Children can learn handicraft skills that challenge their capabilities, bless others, and make the world a more beautiful place. When handicrafts become part of the atmosphere of your home, children will develop fine motor skills, creativity, self-awareness, and so much more.
This workshop will include details on how to introduce handicrafts in the early years and during formal lessons as well as ideas on handicrafts to get started.

5 Steps to a Superior Science Education
There is a reason that American school children score at the very bottom on international science assessments. It is the ineffective way in which science is taught in schools. Most of us were subjected to this system and obtained only a cursory understanding of science. As homeschoolers, we have the freedom and opportunity to throw out those unproductive techniques. We can truly impart a deeper knowledge and love for science. Jeannie will share five vital steps, inspired by Charlotte Mason, that will ensure you impart a superior science education. These five steps will not only enrich your homeschool, they will prepare your children for high school and college.
Jeannie Fulbright
The Pageant of History
Charlotte Mason said,
“Next in order to religious knowledge, history is the pivot upon which our curriculum turns.” (Vol. 6, p. 273)
What does this mean? How is Charlotte Mason’s approach to history different than unit studies? What order did her programmes give to History? Is teaching History with living books the only way her philosophy impacts the study of this subject? In this in-depth workshop, Julie H Ross, creator of A Gentle Feast will break down how to practically approach History with Miss Mason’s methods of living ideas, narration, short lessons, notebooks, and more.

From Ordinary to Extraordinary—A Multi-Faceted Approach to Learning
What happens when our children come "face to face" with a breath-taking event in history that is captured by a painting, architecture, music, literature, drama or engineering feat? In her day, Charlotte Mason invited children to move beyond superficial acquaintance with a historical "fact," and welcomed them into a rich environment where they actually engaged with learning, where they had their own thoughts and questions and ideas. This approach is what transforms the everyday, ho-hum experience of education into an extraordinary adventure! Join Diana Waring as she explores this topic with a wealth of practical concepts and stories. You will be refreshed and encouraged!

Spirit Led Homeschooling
As homeschool moms, we feel the pressure to do everything we can possibly do to make sure our children succeed. That is a lot of pressure, but what if it is not really up to us? Charlotte Mason challenged us to trust the Holy Spirit as the ultimate leader and teacher. We should not only pray over our curriculum, but we must fully embrace the belief that the God of the universe is also the God of math, science, reading, and all subjects. Charlotte Mason calls this, "the great recognition, that God the Holy Spirit is Himself, personally, the Imparter of Knowledge, the Instructor of Youth, the Inspirer of Genius." She believed that "every fruitful idea, every original conception, whether in Euclid, or grammar, or music, was a direct inspiration from the Holy Spirit." We should teach everything in a way that leaves room for the Holy Spirit to do His work.

Tailoring a Living Education through Travel
What does it look like for a living education to be inspired by travel? What does it look when you take the inspiration from rich, living books and instead of simply reading about the cobblestoned streets of early America or the Native American dwellings carved into the sides of cliffs your education extends to experiencing those locations together as a family. Join me as I share with you how we've taken our Charlotte Mason Inspired education on the road to experience the places we've only read about, until now. I'll explain how I cater our home education to the places we'll be traveling and how our life has truly transformed into a rich atmosphere of learning in everything we do with our life while traveling full-time as a family.
